This year’s extended doe season in Kansas gave us the perfect opportunity to put our custom rifles to the test. Joined by our gunsmith, Jarrod Berry, we embarked on a rewarding hunt in rural Cowley County (Unit 12) from January 1 to January 19. A local farmer had reached out, concerned about an excessive number of does damaging his crops, and we were eager to lend a hand.
The Setup
Our goal was to take a few does cleanly and efficiently, demonstrating the precision and reliability of rifles chambered in-house at Kansas Arms Supply. I carried a 6 Creedmoor, while Jarrod brought along a 22 Creedmoor. Both rifles were built with meticulous craftsmanship, using barrels cut and chambered by us to ensure top-tier performance.
The Hunt
We positioned ourselves in the center of the field, known for high deer activity. The terrain offered clear lines of sight, with distances ranging between 300 and 350 yards. It wasn’t long before a small group of does emerged. Using careful observation and coordination, we picked out 3 doe’s.
- The first shot, taken with the 6 Creedmoor at 324 yards, was a clean, ethical hit. The doe dropped instantly without taking a step.
- Jarrod, equipped with his 22 Creedmoor, lined up his shots at 326 and 340 yards. His rifle’s precision chambering ensured another immediate drop with no follow-up shot required. Below is the video of the two shots from the 22 Creedmoor. (Slight pause in the middle to get distance with rangefinder)
This video demonstrates the effectiveness of a 22 Creedmoor with proper training.
In total, we harvested three does over the course of the hunt. Each shot demonstrated the exceptional accuracy and terminal performance that hunters expect from rifles crafted at Kansas Arms Supply.
Why It Matters
This hunt not only helped a local farmer manage deer populations but also reaffirmed our commitment to building custom rifles that deliver when it matters most. The reliability, accuracy, and performance of a well-built rifle can make all the difference—and our experience in Cowley County proved just that.
Our rifles are built with precision engineering and a deep understanding of the demands of hunters. From chambering barrels to fitting actions and selecting premium triggers, every component is crafted to ensure peak performance. A .22 Creedmoor and 6 Creedmoor can be highly effective on deer with correct shot placement and proper training, providing hunters with excellent results in the field.
Expertise You Can Trust
Jarrod Berry and I bring over six years of experience competing in Precision Rifle Series (PRS) events and a combined 50 years of hunting experience in Kansas and Iowa. This background in long-range shooting enhances our ability to design and build rifles that perform with unmatched accuracy and consistency.
