Learn More about the Kansas Coyote Chaos Match

The Kansas Coyote Chaos is an exhilarating long-range steel target shooting match that challenges shooters to engage coyote-shaped silhouettes from 200 to 1,000+ yards (sometimes stretching to 1,400+). Hosted by Twin Peaks Rifle Club in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, and run by Kansas Arms Supply, the event emphasizes precision, wind reading, and time management in a relaxed, safety-focused atmosphere. Competitors choose between two classes: Open (for custom or heavier rifles over 14 lbs, including PRS and F-Class setups) or Factory (stock production rifles under 14 lbs from approved manufacturers like Tikka, Bergara, or Savage). Limited to .30 caliber or smaller with no steel-core ammo, the match welcomes shooters of all skill levels—from complete beginners to seasoned long-range enthusiasts—making it an ideal entry point into precision shooting without the intensity of full PRS-style competitions.

The format is straightforward yet demanding: shooters work through progressive distances in relays, prone or from a bench, with one steel coyote target per stage. You get a limited number of shots (4–10, depending on distance) and strict time limits (60–120 seconds) to score a single hit that advances you to the next yardage. Points decrease with each subsequent shot (e.g., 4–1 points at closer ranges, up to 10–1 at extreme distances), rewarding first-round hits while allowing recovery. Miss a stage entirely and you’re out—unless you pay a $20 buy-back to continue. With RO spotters for confirmation at longer ranges, trophies for top finishers, and a laid-back vibe that prioritizes fun and camaraderie, Kansas Coyote Chaos delivers an accessible, addictive test of marksmanship against unforgiving steel and Kansas wind.
